E42T: 42 East Restaurant & Bar, TTDI – luscious PORK Burger, Nyonya Pork Belly Pong Teh & really spicy Devils’ Curry!

Impressed with the ribs and porky delights here during my last visit (read about the luscious ribs HERE ), I was thrilled when Sean blogged that E42T has since expanded their menu and one of the new additions includes a fat juicy pork burger.

As usual, weeks turned into months as I tried to make time to come savour E42T’s pork burger.
Work’s been crazy lately; & although that’s a fabulous thing (more business is always awesome no?), it has left me with barely any time to catch up on personal matters; like my food hunts & my passive income business, Auruma International. For Malaysia, we’ve got our investment blog here; of which my article is 3 weeks due!

Gold and Silver making a comeback as legal tender Auruma World

Yes, work’s been a bitch. And when the going gets tough, the tough gets eating! 😉
Skewed philosophy I know, hehe, but it works. After all, who won’t be cheered with this in their hands?

42 East Restaurant & Bar’s Pork Burger (RM22++) is a huge ensemble of thick juicy patty, pickled cucumbers, tomatoes & lettuce sandwiched in a specially made bun. The bun was neither too doughy or dry and was just of the right texture to eat with the patty.

Here’s a cross section shot! Hungry yet? 😉

And another one; just because I want to make you drool….

E42T 42 East Restaurant & Bar, TTDI-4

The patty was good. It has a good ratio of meat to fat; and thus effectively ensuring that the patty retains its juiciness & moisture. I’m loving the pickled condiments it came with too; for that imparts a level of piquancy to the whole burger, rather than the normal bland lettuce leaves & slices of tomatoes. It’s worthy to note that they were generous with the sides of fries and vegetables as well.

Overall, I think it’s pretty value for money; with both factors of quantity & quality taken into consideration. All of this goes for RM22++.

E42T 42 East Restaurant & Bar, TTDI (3)

IMHO, nothing beats Andes’ Pork Burgers that comes in the price range of M13.90 – RM15.90. Still, this one was way better than D Legends’ Bar, TTDI (review still in draft *sigh*), SMores Bar Restaurant in Bangsar South (review still in draft! *sigh sigh*) & Brussel’s. And you do not have to wait for nearly an hour for your burger, like how a few friends reportedly did when they went to Nambawan.

As I was really hungry, I added an order of the Peranakan Pork Belly Pong Teh as well. I mean, how could anyone resist the words “pork belly” ??

Pork Belly Pong Teh (RM16) – tender pork belly with alternating layers of melt-in-the mouth fat & chunks of potatoes that has absorbed all the spices and flavours of the gravy. Best eaten with rice I reckon.

Orders generally took a while to be served, of which I would like to assume it means that the dishes are not pre – cooked & then warmed up prior to serving. The Pork Belly Pong Teh however,  met with my disapproval as it was sodium laden enough to pickle the whole bowl. I’m of low sodium tolerance yes, but even my dining & fellow business partners Daniel & Nigel concurred on my verdict.

Anyhow, the pong teh was immediately replaced when I voiced my displeasure to one of the waiters. Good service indeed. I’m happy to report that the new bowl of Pong Teh was of much bearable salt levels & tasty enough to recommend.

The Pork devil curry is a must for those who love their food with heat. This one packs enough to knock down anyone who are of less fiery tolerance. You are forewarned.

While I agree with Nigel that using smoked bacon back soft ribs makes all the difference in this dish, I do hope that the chef could reduce the sodium levels. It was too salty for me but I guess it would be alright for everyone else if you were to eat it with a lot of bread.

Don’t mean to cause a scare or alarm you, but I saw your Auruma link and decided to google it. This site might be just a trouble maker, but the business model of Auruma does look a bit dodgy.

    http://aurumainternational.info/

    1. Rebecca

Serious? You have any experience with them?

      1. Andrew

Thanks for sharing, interesting read 😀

After reading that, I am still undecided actually. A piece defending Auruma at Auruma website by an Auruma investor hardly seems credible. I do acknowledge that cyber squatting argument can be quite valid seeing the whois records, but everything is hidden under proxy registrations, so who actually owns those domains is really anyone’s guess.

Plus, even if it’s real cyber-squatting, it’s still an exclusive issue from whether Auruma’s business model is legit or not. I’m not saying it’s not, I’m just saying it warrants further investigation due to the tiered model which is a common way to package a pyramid scheme such as in the GoldQuest scam.

I’m not suggesting Auruma is a scam but merely warrant further investigation into the business model. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it often is.

Plus, BNM needs to authorized all deposit-taking companies in Malaysia no? Not sure if Auruma is one of them.

      3. JSC

I realized I forgot to answer your question. No, I have not any experience with Auruma. I’m not even an expert in investing, but I do have some interest from personal perspective in increasing my net worth. But I’m realistic enough to know that there’s no guaranteed returns, so every investment carries a risk profile. Again, I really have no vested interest in Auruma, so I’m treating this as merely a intellectual discussion as I don’t benefit regardless of whether you join or do not join Auruma.

Again, let me clarify I have no idea how legit is Auruma and I’m not calling it a scam, but there has been indeed quite a number of gold scam recently such as this one:
        http://www.knowthymoney.com/2011/03/gold-scam-ii-golden-goose-got.html

So, no harm being extra cautious.

        Hi JSC,

I welcome your skepticism about Auruma and their business model. Any MLM or referral will naturally look like a pyramid scheme or ponzi scheme.

Let’s try and address some main points about Auruma. You decide then if its a scam or not.

        1) Auruma is a retail business. They sell silver and gold products at market prices. For example, a 2oz silver coin by PerthMint sold by Auruma is about the same price as quoted by PerthMint themselves, give and take 1 or 2 dollars. Its a fact that Auruma sells their gold cheaper than Malaysian gold smiths like Poh Kong. It is transparent and you can check for yourself. Unlike almost every other MLM in the market, a lot of them have huge mark up for the products, so that they can pay back big commissions to their members. Which leads to point 2.

        2) Auruma pays out only 6% over a total of 8 levels. The reason is simple, with no huge mark-ups, the profit margin isn’t going to be very big. It pays 0.5% for the first 6 levels, and 1% for level 7 and 2% for level 8. The BIG rewards actually only starts when there is a huge market base under you. Hardly a “get rich quick scheme”. One will have to work pretty hard before realising the potential of the passive income. I know I am.

        3) All Gold and Silver products are in your hands. It is a retail business. We don’t want to keep the gold for you. Most gold-scams want you to pay money upfront for gold which you never actually receive. And then they pay you back a guaranteed interest per month. HOWEVER, we have secured the services of Certis Cisco which is Singapore’s very own securities company so that member’s can store their precious metals for free for the first year. Each deposit is made in the name of the owner of the precious metals. THIS is an option only.

        4) Auruma BUYS back all the products that they sell. Like gold smiths, when they buy back, it is bought back at market value. This translates to the SPOT gold orsilver price of the time that you want to sell it. NO MLM company that I know buys back the goods.

        5) Why do they buy back? Its a precious metal. It is an investment. It does not change or rot or goes out of fashion. It is everlasting. That is why people invest in gold and silver and have been doing it for ever.

        6) Auruma wants people to save in Silver and Gold. But they recognise that people do not always have huge amounts of money to buy. So they make it easy. You invest what you think you can afford. The minimum is the 2oz silver coin. Personally, I buy ONLY silver because I believe that silver has much better upside than gold and that it is severely under priced. Most scams want your money upfront and as much as possible.

        7) Finally. All transactions are through your credit card. Payment gateway is supplied by UOB Singapore. If any shenanigans is reported, the vendor is going to get into trouble fast. Secondly, all shipments are made by FEDEX. Again, FEDEX is a recognised logistics company and all products shipped are insured. So if it gets lost in transit, a replacement will be sent.

I could go on, but I will end here. I hope I can continue this discussion over a cup of coffee. I will be more than happy to share more. We have absolutely nothing to hide.

        Cheers!

        Daniel

“when the going gets tough, the tough gets eating” … that’s cute and funny! haven’t heard that one before, heheh 😀

    1. Rebecca

      ROFL! Original wackybecky ok! ;p

  5. Andrew

wow, their menu have grown so much!

  6. nash

Hmm, i wonder if the patty is as good as Andes’s patty with its signature melting cheese oozing out after each bite.

    1. Rebecca

Oh no! Its not as good (IMHO) laa… 🙂

  7. JK

    Wow, this looks really good……
but have you tried Christang’s pork burgers? They’re not bad actually, quite a little pricy though. But their mashed potatoes are really good

    1. Rebecca

Oh yea I tried Cristang, wasn’t too happy with their P1, but P7 was ok. And yes, the food is overpriced!

  8. Machine a Cafe

Undeniably imagine that that you stated. Your favourite reason seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to be mindful of. I say to you, I certainly get irked at the same time as people think about worries that they just do not recognise about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other people could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks

  9. Sarah

I’m wondering, what time does 42 open??

    1. Sarah

      i mean 42 East…><

      1. rebeccasaw

Hey Sarah..I’m not sure if it’s still operational!
I would need to swing by and check yea!
