Burgers in Bangkok – Firehouse Pub & Restaurant and 25 Degrees Bangkok

I do wish I had tried more burgers in Firehouse while in Bangkok. There was time for only one before the #DIAsiaTourism Awards Night and subsequent evenings plans were disrupted no thanks to heavy rain and jams worst than the ones we see in KL.

My Firehouse BurgerMiniBurger , 140 baht (RM14) – 110 grams of fresh ground Pon Yang Kham Organic Thai-French Beef served with Crisp Lettuce, Tomato, Grilled Red Onion, Mayo.

Another burger joint I tried was one conveniently located at the lobby of my hotel. The amazing thing about 25 Degrees is that it is open 24 hours. Unfortunately that’s about it. Though I could just come down from my room in Pullman Bangkok Hotel G in the middle of the night to order a sinful burger, I found the burger at 25 Degrees not to my liking.

My 25 Degrees Burger: Signature Burger – Number Two: Beef patty (ground sirloin)/Roasted Tomato/Burrata/Crispy Prosciutto/Pesto.

25 Degrees @Pullman Bangkok Hotel G  is funky new sister venue to legendary Los Angeles burger & wine bar 25 Degrees. Apparently 25 degrees refers to the precise temperature difference between a raw and well done hamburger.

The decor is almost “rodeo” but certainly more sophisticated and classy. I almost expected to see a jukebox hidden at some corner for diners to push a few coins in for music. But no, no jukebox though through the speakers funky tunes (think American hits from the 70s and 80s to rock) played throughout the day.

The place exudes a hip and informal atmosphere which relaxes me. Tapping my feet to the music, I surveyed the menu.
Ah, should I build my own burger? Or perhaps, since it is my first visit, I should go for their signatures?

In the end, the Number Two won. Just because I like the thought of pesto with burgers. I have had pesto with grilled vegetables as a vegetarian sandwich and pesto with chicken sandwich yes, but not in burger as yet.
Since each burger comes with a 200g patty, I decided against any soups or salads but Vivian, my travel partner for the trip fancied some onion rings and fries. So we added a Mix add-ons of onion rings and fries for 80 baht (RM8).

And so that was it – an order of a burger plus onion rings and fries. The plan was to sample one and decide if we should order another or hit the streets of Bangkok for some local grub. We figured that a very basic set would give us an idea to whether the burgers here are worth more of our Thai baht.

Standard condiments on the table includes ketchup, mustard, mayo, Lea & Perrins and 3 types of Tabasco. I’ve never needed such sauces for my burgers and if I do, that just means the burger ain’t good enough to be eaten on its own. I asked the waitress to clear them, feeling rather confident that I won’t be needing those.

I regretted the onion rings and fries add-ons at the first bite of each. Ok, nothing special. And yes please dear waitress, we would need some ketchup. Could you please bring those condiments back please?

Pushing the fries aside, I focused on the burger next.

It was one hell of a messy burger for sure. But it does looks good doesn’t it?

Thanks Vivian for this shot! 🙂

But it wasn’t anywhere near as good as it looks. The soft and mushy patty kept breaking apart in my hands. Because the whole ensemble was so sloppy, everything was sliding out from between the buns. It was salty and frankly, terribly hard to swallow and not to mention greasy as hell. Vivian finished her half and proclaimed that the Firehouse burger was better while I decided to just pay the bill and return to my room.

Thankfully the Firehouse burger was worthy of its fame. Some even said it’s the best in Bangkok but since I have yet to eat that many burgers in Bangkok I can’t comment. On the evening we were there, we have dinner and cocktails waiting for us at BED Supperclub so we shared one burger; again just to test if it’s as good as everyone proclaimed it to be.

Free peanuts and good pickles on the table are a nice plus. We started to survey the menu, and was lost for a while.

The basics, I told Vivian. Let’s just go for the basic and we can decide from there. Vivian agreed, and in the end we order a MiniBurger which the waitress recommended and assured us that it isn’t very “mini”.

While waiting I explored the menu again, and found this page that shared a little bit more about their beef. Wow, it is 30 days aged beef!

Impressed with what I read, I couldn’t wait to take my first bite of this organic Poon Yang Kham beef with the freshly baked Kaiser bun. While waiting I busied myself with photography of the outlet. The restaurant is small and the decor consists mainly of fire fighters’ memorabilia; hence the name Firehouse.

The burger was well presented as it was served on a wooden board. I swapped the fries for a salad and they had happily obliged.

The burger was lip-smacking good! Moist, well prepared & flavorful and I trust that using aged beef played a role. Our burger is as basic as it gets here; only lettuce, tomatoes and onions and yet it was superbly tasty. We had no trouble finishing it and started contemplating on ordering a second burger!

There are many more interesting combinations for the burgers here on the menu but due to DIAsiaTourism event we were not able to order another as the restaurant started to fill up by then and we couldn’t spare the waiting time.

Other than the menu I shared above, here are the seasonal specials. I think our local burger joints in Malaysia (KL/Penang, etc) could do with some inspirations from both the menus from Firehouse and 25 Degrees. Come on, there’s more to burgers than just using coloured buns and hiring celebrities as ambassadors. And to those who only hire professional chefs in the kitchen, time to start picking on those professional brains don’t you think?

25 Degrees Bangkok – Decent burgers. I wouldn’t say excellent. Might return if I’m in the vicinity. After all I only had one burger, I’m open to try the others on the menu.

  1. very intriguing menus for both places! for 25 degrees, i’d like to try the yellowfin tuna burger … and i really like that they have more than a dozen different cheeses for you to choose from! i wouldn’t know which one to pick, since most of them are very good cheeses 😀 for firehouse, the beef patty sounds like a real attraction! a patty that’s probably more satisfying than many actual beef steaks! 😀

Yup! I love how they have such creative combinations. For 25 degrees I’m just disappointed with the beef. Perhaps I’ll order med done next round 🙂
I’ll definitely revisit Firehouse for more burgers the next time I’m in Bangkok. Can’t wait to dig into some porky goodness! And also to try out if their other combi works/are as good as it sounds on the menu 😀

  2. Glad the Firehouse burger didn’t disappoint! Although I must say.. the earlier one really looked pretty darn good, very deceiving. LOL.

So sloppy and cheesy! Ok I meant the 25 Degrees burger – sadly it didn’t taste good. 🙁

One thing about Thailand, there’s PORK! 🙂

I have been to Firehouse several times and went to 25degrees once. Firehouse is the absolute winner here. Beef is moist and delicious, fried potato (I cannot remember its name) is thick but crispy and tasty. They also offer more selections of cheese and options. My favorite one is American black beef plus bacon and Switzer cheese.

They also have great tacos, my wife prefers them more than burgers actually.
