Boryeong Mud Festival in Daecheon Beach, South Korea – Videos!!

The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual festival which takes place during the summer in Boryeong, South Korea & lucky me happened to be in South Korea on the very same week! Oh my god! !!
How can I not go, right? Such perfect coincidence! And rolling in mud is absolutely my kind of thing!! 😉

The catch is, I only got to know about it on my 2nd day in Korea. So hence the whole ‘last minute trying to figure out a way to get there’, researching where is it exactly, arranging transportation & accommodation, etc; which is not easy considering the language barrier.
So I took the easy way out; I booked myself on a tour! That deserves another post on it’s own (some horror stories!). For now, I will just concentrate on the Mud Festival! Enjoy the videos!

The first Mud Festival was staged in 1998 and it’s been growing in popularity year after year. Tourists & even Koreans from every part of the country flocked over to Daecheon Beach, Boryeong for days of fun, sun, MUD, sea & sand!

There were mud body painting stations with various coloured mud..

A mud “pool” for splashing around & team games (where 2 teams pit against each other in various competitive games).

Or voluntarily lock yourself  into Mud Prison & get splashed hard with buckets of mud as your punishment! LOL.

Even the girls on duty had their fun

This game requires some teamwork & strength.

This is the “self massage” area where you can happily slather yourself with mud!

This was fun :yahoo: !! Some hunky army dudes flipped & somersaulted in the air before landing & sliding down! I couldn’t get a shot as I was in the line & my camera was safely tucked away.

Another game station.
As you can hear from the videos, the mud festival is very jovial & loud place! Everyone is laughing, screaming & the mud festival marshalls speaks in Korean faster than their subway trains!

And yes, some marshalls just enjoy dumping mud on you. 😉

This pool is for you to rinse off the mud once you are done playing. How considerate no?
Of course there are proper public washrooms, but this helps to wash off the bulk of the mud 😉

So who wants to go next year? Dates are not fixed but it is in July/summer months for Korea annually!

Next: More pics of the beach & people! And yes, of myself too 😉
