Bits & Bobs (ais kepal/ice balls) @ Kong Heng Square, Ipoh

What used to be “old” and forgotten has been resurrected to be ‘hip‘ again.
I’m in favour of such revivals of old and nostalgic, though by now I’ve realized it comes at an inflated price, no thanks to well, inflation.

A RM0.10 ice ball 2 decades ago is now RM3.00.
I’m not claiming this is to be the price throughout the whole country, but at Bits & Bobs in Ipoh, that is what you will be paying for an ice ball drizzled with syrup.

The current heatwave will make any sane human sigh in relief with one (or TWO) of these ice balls (Ais Kepal) from Bits & Boobs.

A friend of mine had one, and walked back to get another.
I smiled in encouragement, though inside I was thinking “RM6.00 for two ice balls with sugar…”.

Ok, don’t mind me.
I would spend RM3.00 for an ais kacang ok?

And I did steal his ball (ok, that doesn’t sound right) and had a few suck.
It was cooling and enjoyable enough.

Anyways, this small little shop in Kong Heng Square, directly behind Plan B is quite a cute set up with its knick-knacks and vintage collection of books, rims and some toys.

It is extremely popular and though personally I won’t be buying any ice balls, I do appreciate having this childhood treat being revived.

My family and i went to try the ice ball a.k.a ais kepal after searching popular F&B in Ipoh.
A price of RM4 for just an ice with gula Melaka! RM5 for apple flavour & RM6 for mix flavours.
(You can have special ABC with lots of ingredients in it with those price tags.)
I notice that most of the customers came yesterday are first time trying of it.
A guy asking for a spoon or straw to feed his 2 years old son but the seller ignore and ask him to let the boy suck the ice ball!!
I’m not sure if one straw/spoon is to expensive in Ipoh!
Anyway, at least we have tried ais kepal Bits & Bots.

LOL! My exact thoughts as well.
And I didn’t like the fact that they were rude. Well, this is the sort of stuff that u would wan to try, ONCE. 😀
