In observing the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan, Vistana Hotels is proud to present its Ramadhan feast; this time with the theme ‘Tok Wan 101 Recipes’.

Tok Wan is a colloquial Pahang state term for grandmother.

Thus the buffet here is tapping into taste memories of authentic Malay dishes inspired by Tok Wans everywhere (meaning our grandmothers’ recipes) and diners can look forward to a healthy selection of ulam-ulaman or herbal salads such as ulam raja, jantung pisang, four-angled beans and petai, coupled with palate opening sambals and sauces including sambal belacan, cencaluk, tempoyak, budu and sambal nenas.

More hearty selections features spicy lamb soups, beef stew, succulent ayam bunga rampai, rendang daging, ikan talapia goreng berempah, assam pedas ikan tenggiri, ayam percik, gulai daging dengan nangka, paru paru goreng berlada, daging masak kicap dan lada hitam, ikan sembilang masak tempoyak, pajeri terong and rebung masak lemak.kambing panggang, satay and ikan bakar with selections of stingray, mackerel and yellowtail.
As usual I sampled a bit of each and find the curries rich and tasty, the meats and seafood fresh.
As the main buffet took quite a while to be ready for us that particular evening, we only managed to sample perhaps 50% of the buffet. For once I didn’t try the lamb but Karen who stayed back for the full buffet said it was good.
For RM48++ I daresay this is one of the best value buffet in town, considering that all the pictures you see below are just about half of the full spread!

The traditional Malay kuih-muih such as kuih talam pandan, onde-onde, seri muka, ketayap, kuih pelita, or Western, with assorted mini French pastries, carrot cake, red velvet cake, brownies and chocolate slabs are adeptly made here.
Refreshing ice cream is also available with flavours like vanilla, chocolate, peppermint and strawberry and my favourite ice kacang is also available at the dessert counter.
We sampled all the desserts while waiting for the main buffet and we really enjoyed the traditional kuih; not too sweet but rich and creamy with coconut milk. 😀

The Ramadhan-inspired buffet will be held on the 3rd floor inside Banquet Room. The food is displayed at the pool area so diners can enjoy the evening breeze as they fill their plates.
Prayer rooms are available within the hotel to cater to its Muslim guests celebrating this blessed month.

The Tok Wan 101 Recipes is priced at MYR48++ per adult and MYR30++ per child aged 4-12 years old and available from 29th June to 27th July 2014.
I think this is a truly value for money buffet in KL! 🙂

RM48++ is a really nice price for this spread (considering it’s the price of a single cocktail at several places in KL right now!). lots of ayam percik for me 😀

  3. Renne

RM48++ for all that? Amazing value indeed!
