BellyGood!

Halal.

Serves No Pork.

Pork-free.

Urghhh..what’s a swine (no, not of the human kind, I’m talking about the pig!!) lover got to do…(order chicken lohh)...at such outlets

So when Tim of 3-meals.com organised a food tasting session at Bellygood, which apparently specialised in all things swine & lardy, I was hard- pressed to decline.
Luckily I went, for I finally got to meet bangsar-babe!, plus a bunch of lifestyle bloggers that’s so young and hip that I felt like an aunty ;p

Food-wise, we were treated to some serious swine-goodness last Thursday.

Starting off with appetizers, Chili Munchies (RM6.50) was the opening dish.
I tucked in eagerly; expectations high and stomach rumbling.

Whoopss.. SALTY and SPICY. Really peppery too.
Next please.
Chili Munchies – grilled jumbo sausages sauteed with onions, garlic and chili.

Oh, did I spied salad??
Oh yes, indeed it is. The Smoked Salmon Salad (RM23.90).
Slices of smoked salmon with mixed greens, tossed in honey mustard dressing.
This would be a great alternative for those who prefers a healthier start to their meal. Come to think of it, it could even be a main on its own since the portion is certainly generous enough.
Or do as what I’ll would, get this shared among the group to balance off the mains, which is essentially very meat- heavy dishes.

Then the Baked Portobello Mushroom with Bacon and Cheese (RM12.50) came.
Portobello (I love them!) Those meaty, flavorful mushrooms were gussied up with bacon bits and melted cheese. It was sweet, earthy and juicy, with the toppings lending the savoury factor. Thumbs up!
Pork Cracklings (RM6.50)
My eyes widen at the sight of this.
Pork skin fried to a crisp, it is very much the prawn crackers version of lard! Sinful, I know. But hey, this is something that you don’t see too often. Bellygood is sure one pork haven!

Pork Tenderloin with Creamy Mustard Sauce (RM23.90)
Pork Tenderloin with Creamy Brown Sauce (RM26.90)
Pork Tenderloin with Creamy Hot Sauce (RM26.90)
The next 3 mains are both identical in presentation and offerings. 3 slices of pork tenderloin pan-fried (I honestly felt that it wasn’t as tender as it should be), doused with your choice of sauce (which is the differentiation factor) and with sides of cold penne & caramelised onions.

The cold penne; though interesting as it was cooked stewed with pears, was forgettable, being chewy and hard. I do like the caramelised onions though. Best eaten all in one mouthful, each piece of meat with the onions and liberal helping of sauce, the dish was enjoyable enough.
The green and red chilli cuts are a bit misplaced though..Personally, I would recommend diners to go for the Mixed Platter (RM23.90) or the Baby Back Ribs (RM29.90) .
The Mixed Platter is a combination of their signatures, Original Grilled Pork Belly (RM21.90) and Original Grilled Pork Ribs (RM23.90) in a one plate serving.
Soused with their House Special Rib / Belly sauce accompanied with mash and coleslaw, the pork belly was great with alternating layers of gelatinous melt -in- the mouth fat. The ribs weren’t that bad either, albeit a bit dry.
While the mash was spud-dy and has a rich buttery taste that I like, the sides of tomatoes and coleslaw was just ordinary.
Sauce wise? Full flavoured, thick and rich. Just perfect for those who like their meat heavily marinated.

Baby Back Ribs (RM29.90)
Succulent, with the sauce moderately spicy and sweet, I rate this the best meat dish of the night.
The meat texture is softer, loose and tender.
Sauteed Bacon Capellini (RM17.50)
Angel hair pasta tossed with garlic wine sauce, with toppings of sauteed bacon, mushrooms, chopped chillies and tomatoes, very akin aglio-olio.
The oil and aroma from the bacon made all the difference here. Coating each strand and making it really fragrant, it definitely adds the appeal to the dish.

Sausage Platter (RM26.90)
Consist of 5 types of sausage; the Spicy Hungarian, Pork Oriental, Pork Oriental Garlic, Pork Chorizo and Chicken Chorizo.
Order if you are a real bangers fan, else it’s better to share a plate among a group. Then everyone gets a bite to taste the difference, just like us that night. As expected, some prefers this, other prefers that. Anyhow, the plate was wiped clean 😉

What’s to like:
1. Fusion style dishes combining the best of both the Western and spicy and exotic Asian taste, inspired by the American grilling cooking method.
2. No tenderizers were used, other than the mechanical- manual mallet way so the level of tenderness in the meat is due solely by way of cooking and the skill of the chef.
3. Reasonably priced menu.
4. MOVENPICK!

Josh of (josh.my) generously treated us to 2 desserts.
Movenpick is Movenpick, so there’s really nothing to complain about it. The accompanying brownie is uummm… “could be improved“.
The Tiramisu.
No cheese, no liquer and 75% custard (yup you read right) and whipped cream.
Some “behind the scenes” pics..
Open Kitchen.. (almost all food outlets has it anyways..)
And..the bunch of us who turned up..
last note: Can someone please kindly tell me how do I make my pics bigger? Seems that blogger only allows this size (under upload ‘large’)..I tried editing the html code for the size & my pics ended up blurry… grrr…

Cute restaurant name. The smoked salmon salad looks nice. Other food looks decent too. Looks good.

  2. boo_licious

Don’t use blogger, use a software like flickr or photobucket instead. Then you can control the size. Once you upload the pixs, just copy the code and paste it.

Wow, that is a lot of food tasters in the session. Think Simon was also there as I saw his FB.

  3. J2Kfm

aiyo .. all the porky goodness at once! this outlet has been on my list, but somehow whenever go Sunway Pyramid, tends to eat there lah.

to make pics bigger, upload to Flickr, or Photobucket then link from there.

  4. thenomadGourmand

sugar bean: very heavy sauces, so if your taste is towards the heavier/salty side, then this is a gd bet.
