Fonterra Foodservices Pastry and Pizza Challenge 2012

Rather recently I found out there is an annual Pastry and Pizza Challenge that has been going on since 2008.

The Challenge is organised as part of Fonterra’s commitment to encourage budding chefs by offering them an opportunity to showcase their culinary skills whilst competing with the crème de le crème of the industry.
In other words, they are competing on an international level.

This year I was invited to the prize giving ceremony and had some time to get acquainted with the workings of this annual competition. As a foodie, I appreciate any given opportunity to meet aspiring and current chefs; especially local talented ones.

JOHOR FOOD: Restaurant ZZ Sup Tulang – Good stuff!

Tonight is my last night for my Johor-Singapore Firefly trip.
And it is tonight that I finally got to savour some local Johoreans cuisine, a delightful respite from the past few days of hotel buffets and common Malay cuisine.

On the menu tonight is Laksa Johor, Sup Tulang and Mee Rebus Tulang!
This was my first time seeing chunky bones sticking out from a plate of noodles. And the amazing thing is, there’s not 1, BUT a minimum of 2-3 bones per plate!

Such novelty. I don’t understand why we can’t have this in KL too. Just combine Sup Tulang and Mee Rebus right?? A plate of this is RM7 for Mee Rebus Tulang, and RM9 for Mee Rebus Tulang + Daging (meat). Pretty reasonable I’ll say!

The YES 4G Phone Launch on 3rd of May

Now, if you’re a techie you would have heard the news by now and probably waiting in anticipation as much as I am.

I got the invite to the launch a few days back, while I was busy commuting between KL – Johor – Singapore for my Firefly media trip and also to cover the World Gourmet Summit 2012.

It was a hectic week, and as I sat down now to draft this post, I’m exhausted but really curious about this phone; dubbed the world’s smartest 4G phone.

I have seen a prototype of it some months back when we met the CEO of YES, Wing over a separate event. It looked incredibly fine back then, but the team has hinted that the current finished product is even better.

I can’t say I’m as excited as I was last year, since it has been rumoured to launch God knows since when. My attention, just like every techie’s, has been diverted with the recent launch of the HTC One X (which I bought quite a few!) and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy SIII.

Well, better late than never. So 3rd of May 2012 it is then.

My HTC One X remained unopened since the day I bought it, no thanks to the hectic travelling assignments I have been on lately. So shall I sell it? RM1900, anyone? :)

Tanjong Jara Retreat: The journey in the Volvo XC60 and McDonalds Chicken Muffin!

I woke up at the ungodly hour of 4am to finish packing (read: rushing and dumping everything I think I may need into my luggage) before the start of the journey to Tg Jara Resort in Kuala Dungun, Terengganu.

I was anticipating a LONGGGG ride, since it was supposedly a minimum 5 hours ride from KL. I started my journey as early as I could, since I was leaving KL on a Monday morning, and getting stuck in traffic prior to a get-away is not my idea of fun.

World Gourmet Summit 2012 – Singapore!
